New year, new resolution, new me, new look? I know so many of us are looking and wishing for that. We tell ourselves these phrases every new year, but we never manage to keep them for a significant period of time.
Why does it seem like we eventually give up on what should be so good for us. Of course we give excuses. “No time” Is that really the problem?
Most of us understand the reasons for our poor physical and mental health. Of course, losing weight gets us away from habits, makes us disciplined, and probably trains us to manage our time well. we don’t want that, however, which keeps us away from our favorite foods. and the art of exercise is difficult, and time? I don’t have enough of it. In all this, it’s our attitude that keeps us from doing what needs to be done.
To lose weight, the mental and physical levels need to be aligned. It is not an easy journey, but a journey with spines and many benefits. These thorns may or may not be noticeable. It all depends on the attitude you have towards your goal. The benefits of weight loss outweigh any pain we feel during the process. So it’s better to maintain a positive attitude and see losing weight as part of a lifestyle full of positive things.
We can develop a strong positive attitude towards our goal if we want to. I don’t want to wait until it’s too late before taking a few small steps toward my goal.
One way to do that is to pretend you are doing it, even if you don’t feel that way. It is normal to plan and fail as long as you keep going, no matter how much you fail. That’s why it’s important to plan your actions ahead of time and allow for setbacks. For example, planned to go to the gym and then a major emergency comes up.
Talk to yourself – The most important advice that works is the advice you give yourself. We know what we want, where our problem lies, what we want to improve and how we want to be seen. To this end, it is important that you talk to yourself. Do I feel good about myself? Do I have a problem? How do I want to be seen? How is my body responding?

Be true to yourself – Being true to yourself means being honest about how we feel, how we want to be seen, what we want. When we communicate with ourselves, we are completely honest and without reservation. This is you and you alone. When I finally stepped on the scale and realized that I had only been neglecting myself for clumsy reasons. I made a decision.
Take small steps – half a loaf is better than none at all (in my pidgin language we say “at all, at all na im worse pass”). Make small changes in food intake and physical activities. You can start with a good number of steps and increase them over the weeks, depending on how well you feel. But then always check how much you are taking to know if you are making progress.
Make time to exercise. Make time for it. If you drive to work every day, pack in about 1 mile and walk the rest. If you like going to a gym, create your own “me time” and don’t let anything distract you. I suggest that you work out mainly in the morning. Read the link Reasons why it’s good to work out in the morning.
Watch your food portions. Losing weight means making smart choices. No diet is bad. People have different food culture and mentality towards food. So you don’t have to commit to a certain diet or food just because it’s labeled a power food. Stick to your own eating culture and control the portions you eat. Make sure your food consists more of vegetables and fruits that will do you a lot of good. You don’t have to break the bank to lose weight. Check out the link Nigerian inspired food portions to help you lose weight.
Be flexible with your plans. We don’t really have an excuse to commit to a healthier lifestyle, rather an attitude that keeps us from making the right decision. Changing plans is not an excuse to doing nothing. If you normally work out at the gym and are out of town, take a walk around where you are staying – 6,000 to 10,000 steps can be achieved in an hour and a few minutes.
Remember that it is a mental and physical journey as you approach your goal. You are only competing with yourself and not with another person. It is about you being in control of your whole being, lifestyle, health and appearance and not the other way around. A little bit of something is better than nothing at all. No matter how little time you have or how down you feel, take it upon yourself to walk for a few minutes, dance to your favorite music, or even go to the gym. Every little bit helps, and almost always. Once you start, your energy will increase and you’ll make the habits a lifestyle.
