What Motivates Your Weight Loss Journey?

People go on a diet for all sorts of reasons. Dieting in itself is hard and you need at least what motivates you. Taking the brave step to lose weight and give up all the delicious foods and cook something different is a difficult decision for many. Whatever you do to motivate yourself to reach your goal is welcome, because there is no wrong reason to diet. The trick is to find the reason that will actually make you reach your goal.

In today’s Nigeria, I have seen all sorts of excellent motivators when it comes to maintaining your weight and taking your health seriously. From our beloved Kate Henshaw to Omoni Oboli, Nancy Isime and many others. These actresses show the importance of not only staying in shape, but also taking care of their health by showing off their routines on their social media pages as often as possible.

Why do people want to lose weight?

One of the most common reasons is to look healthy and stay in shape. For some, it may be about fitting back into the clothes they used to wear, while others just want to look in the mirror again without guilt (me, for example). For others, it’s about finally dealing with what has become a lifelong problem. If you find the inspiration you need to be more successful than usual with your diet this time around, then that’s a perfectly plausible and acceptable reason for you to go on a diet.

Why you should consider Losing Weight?

Remain physically fit

According to the CDC website, physical activity can improve your brain health, help with weight control, reduce disease risk, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do activities of daily living. There is also other research showing that physical activity reduces many important risk factors for mortality, including arterial hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, stroke and cancer. In fact, people who sit less and engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity reap many health benefits.

Some of us have a deep and abiding desire to live as long as possible in good health, and firmly believe that the best way to achieve that goal is to live as healthy as possible. And losing weight is an important way to achieve that goal. If that is your reason for losing weight and getting in shape, then you are obviously doing it right. Remember that each person must find their own unique motivation.

Ward off obesity

This is one of the most debilitating side effects for most when it comes to obesity. Obesity brings with it many everyday problems, such as shortness of breath, increased sweating, snoring, difficulty exercising, frequent fatigue, joint and back pain, low self-confidence and self-esteem, and feelings of isolation. To keep up with energy, warding off obesity should be enough reason to lose weight. People with obesity are always tired and have almost no energy left at the end of the day to do anything with your precious young children who are still young. You desperately want to cherish creating those precious memories with them, but you have absolutely no energy to do so. If that wasn’t bad enough, you’ve probably also noticed that many of the simplest activities with your children often cause you physical pain, that is directly attributable to your weight.

Revenge

Revenge is another excellent motivator for some people when it comes to losing weight and getting rid of those extra pounds. In many cases, great weight loss takes time. So, you need to be able to maintain your motivation even when things get tough along the way. The road to a new body is not an easy one. The best revenge for old slights and wounds is to come back more beautiful than ever. If you need this motivation to shed the pounds, then this is the motivation you should stick to.

Religion

Religion and faith are powerful motivators because they are known to bring healing to people in need through the power of their faith or prayers. Some people believe that the body should be treated like a worship sanctuary. There is nothing wrong with this philosophy at all, although some of us take longer to come around to this way of thinking than others. If your faith can give you the willpower and strength you need to achieve your diet and weight loss goals, then by all means, lean on your faith and hold on to it.

No matter what kind of motivation you have for your health journey, without the right motivation, it is quite unlikely that you will ever achieve your weight loss goals.
